Wearable for Ostomy Care

The $2.5M NIH NIDDK grant funded Smart Seal Therapy Ostomy Pouch is a smart body-worn sealant dispensing system. The cycle of misery due to leakage for ostomates is eliminated with in-situ leakage detection and on-board 16 mm disposable pumps to prevent effluency leakage and skin breakdown. The pumps dispense a bio-friendly sealant if a pending leak is going to occur to prevent leakage. A low-cost polymer thick film(PTF) multi-element electrochemical sensor array detects the leakage around the stoma site to trigger pump operation.
